Urquhart Announces Candidacy for King County Sheriff

Former King County Sheriff's spokesman John Urquhart announced his intention to run for Sheriff at a downtown Seattle hotel on Tuesday.

The Seattle Times is reporting that former King County Sheriff's spokesman John Urquhart is running for King County Sheriff this November.

Urquhart, 64, made the announcement at a press gathering Tuesday morning at the Westin Hotel in Seattle.

He retired from KCSO in November but was reportedly interested in running for office after former King County Sheriff Sue Rahr announced her resignation in March.

Deputy King County Sheriff Steve Strachan was appointed to replace Rahr until the next general election as the county's top law enforcement official. He told the Seattle Times that he intended to run for election this November.

Candidates must file for the General Election in mid-May.
