Yours truly missed the August 20 meeting of the Enumclaw School Board due to illness. Thanks for Diana Aaby at the district office for making the meeting minutes available (you can read it here as a PDF).
Here are a few highlights we wanted to point out, especially with the school year just starting:
- The Sunrise PTA donated $1,314.02 to Sunrise Elementary to be used for classroom enhancements; and Black Diamond PTA also donated $750 for Black Diamond Elementary's field day BBQ. Several parent teacher organizations now also have their own websites and even Facebook pages. You can find more information about your child(ren)'s school's organization at the district office website.
- Enumclaw High School students underwent training as mentors this summer to become part of LinkCrew, an effort to help transition freshmen to their new school. Students at a school board meeting. They also have a Facebook page you can 'like.'
- There will be a STEM Expo on October 11 in the EHS Commons from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. that is a district-wide effort to "excite young people about careers in science, technology, engineering and math." The event is a partnership between the district and the Enumclaw Schools Foundation. Organizers are working to include several local and regional representatives to share their expertise and insights with students K-12. More information is on the Foundation website.
