Full Day Kindergarten Annual Dinner Auction 2011

Join us for our annual Dinner and Auction on Saturday, April 16th from 5:00 to 8:30pm at the Enumclaw Expo Center Field House. Tickets are $35 per person.

How is the Full Day Kindergarten fee of $2,500 for 10 months calculated?

Half-time kindergarten for all children is funded by the state of Washington. The difference between the half-day and  full-day expenses must be made up from District funds. The Enumclaw School District (ESD) calculates the cost of  hiring a teacher for one full-day session rather than two half-day sessions. A full-day session also requires extra cleaning, electricity and other needs, which factor into determining the fee. As a point of reference, the ESD Full Day Kindergarten fee is the same or lower than all surrounding districts.

Why did the Enumclaw School District stop offering free Full Day Kindergarten for all students?

For six years, the Enumclaw School District offered free Full Day Kindergarten for all students by using voter-approved Initiative 728 funds. This created a revenue source of $2.1 million to be used for approved purposes in the ESD, of which $450,000 was used to fund Full Day  Kindergarten.  During the state budget reductions of the past two years, I-728 funds have been completely eliminated.
