Rotary Names March Students of the Month

Chris Hanrahan from Enumclaw High School and Shane Markus from White River High School were recognized by the Rotary Club.

The Enumclaw Rotary Club recognized the following students as Students of the Month at their March 17, 2011 meeting, according to international service director Diane Anderson.

Chris Hanrahan, son of Kerri and Ed Hanrahan of Black Diamond, was the recipient from Enumclaw High School.  A 3.85 student who has taken five advanced placement classes, Chris is a member of the National Honor Society.  He is a senior class officer and has also participated in football, soccer, judo, weight lifting and on the yearbook staff, in addition to being active in his church.  Chris plans to attend the University of Washington next fall and work towards a degree in business administration with a minor in finance.

Shane Markus, son of Mary and Peter Markus of Carbonado, was the recipient from White River High School.  A strong academic student and member of National Honor Society, Shane has taken 5 advanced placement classes and has a 3.93 GPA.  He participates on the varsity cross country and track team and has volunteered in his community through Key Club and the Washington Trails program.  Shane has been accepted to both the University of Washington and Washington State University for next fall with an academic interest in both physics and math.
