Sunrise Named "Reward School" by State of Washington

Enumclaw Schools Superintendent Mike Nelson received a letter from OSPI Superintendent Randy Dorn about the distinction at Sunrise Elementary School.

Have you taken a look at the Enumclaw School District website or Facebook page lately? Great news announced this morning about Sunrise Elementary School. Here's a letter Superintendent Mike Nelson received:

Dear Superintendent Mike Nelson:

Congratulations! Sunrise Elementary School has been named a Reward School, as part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Flexibility Request approved by the Department of Education.

Reward Schools are classified either as "highest performing schools" or "high-progress schools". Sunrise Elementary is a high-progress Title I school that scored in the top 10 percent of Title I schools in Reading and Math (combined) on state assessments for its "all students" group. This designation acknowledges a school’s performance and improvement in Reading and Math during a three-year period (2008/09-2010/11). Schools designated as Reward Schools cannot have significant achievement or opportunity gaps among subgroups.

Again, we congratulate you on this achievement! Your staff, students, parents and community can take pride in joining this distinguished group.

Sincerely,
Randy I. Dorn
State Superintendent
Of Public Instruction
