Viewfinder: Prepped and Primped for Prom

As the summer sun shone brightly Saturday, there was plenty of sparkle inside Shine Salon & Spa as these Enumclaw High School seniors got ready for their prom.

A perfect sunshine and blue skies Saturday morning made it hard for many to stay indoors, but eight young ladies from Enumclaw High School had no complaints hanging out inside where owner Tim Munnell and staff had generously provided complimentary hair, make up and an assortment of other services so they'd be ready for prom -- held this year at the Snoqualmie Ridge Golf Club -- in the evening.

The girls received these services as part of Prom Dreams, a project organized by a local committee who has worked in the past few months to extend a hand to girls who needed a little extra help in making their once-in-a-lifetime prom dreams come true. This year marks the second year this project has been undertaken, organizer Judy Zumwalt said.

Rikki Michelle, a make up artist who freelances at the salon, did the make up for all eight girls. "It was such an amazing experience," she said. "I was very honored to be a part of this event."

In May, the girls among dozens donated by the community. Prom Dreams then oversaw all alteractions that were needed to have the dresses fitted to each individual girl as well as dry cleaning services.

  • Kiwanis
  • Mary Kay - thanks to local consultant Becky Cates
  •  (for corsages and boutineers)
  •  in Sumner for cleaning all the donated dresses
  • Multiple individuals who donated money, time and skills including alteration services for the dresses, as needed.

For Munnell and his staff, it was a busy day helping not only these eight young ladies get ready for prom -- but at least another 16 appointments were booked Saturday that were prom-related, he said.
