Whiz Kid: Kyle Baumgartner

This senior leader of the Enumclaw High baseball team balances college baseball aspirations with dominance in the classroom.

Name: Kyle Baumgartner, 18

School/Organization: Senior, Enumclaw High School, 3.97 G.P.A.

Kyle has been able to excel at the highest level in the classroom and on the baseball diamond at Enumclaw High School. He has taken on a very demanding academic schedule that includes AP Calculus. "I take hard classes because I know it looks good on a college resume," Baumgartner said. "I just try to work hard in the classroom. If college coaches see that I work hard in the classroom, then they will know that I will work hard on the field."

The ability to be a leader is one Kyle's biggest strengths. "I think my teammates see me as a quiet guy who works hard and is a strong team leader."

In his spare time, Kyle enjoys spending time with his family, working out at the gym, and hanging out with friends.

Future Goals: "I want to play college baseball at the Division I level," Baumgartner said.

Kyle is being recruited by the likes of the University of Nevada and local community colleges in Edmonds and Skagit Valley to play college baseball. "I also want to play professional baseball one day -- that is a dream of mine," he said.

Biggest Accomplishment: Kyle was a key contributor to the Enumclaw baseball team making it to the state 3A baseball semifinals last May at Safeco Field. He posted a team-leading four home runs and 22 runs batted in along with a .397 batting average to lead the Hornets to a third-place finish. He also has been a varsity starter for three years and is a returning first team all-South Puget Sound League 3A outfielder from 2010.

Key to Awesomeness: "I believe in staying focused," Baumgartner said. "Also, having great determination and treating people how I want to be treated is very important to awesomeness."
