Sonics/Kings: Day after reflections on the NBA's recommendation to deny relocation of the Kings to Seattle

Day after thoughts about the NBA relocation committee's recommendation to deny relocation of the NBA's Sacramento Kings to Seattle.

After yesterday's news about the NBA relocation committee and their recommendation to keep the Kings in Sacramento, on the surface I am not shocked by the decision as it was a perfect storm of factors  like the Maloofs, that even with the vastly superior package being submitted by Seattle to the NBA. In the end, there was no way that David Stern on his watch was going to allow this relocation to Seattle as too there is too much of a vindictive vendetta by Stern against Seattle and more importantly in this case the Maloofs.

On the surface it is very easy to want to be angry and listening to the calls on KJR I felt the palpable anger , and frustration and its awesome because it means to me that the sports fans of this region are some of the fiercest competitors in the country in regard to their desire to bring the NBA basketball back to Seattle. Now, with Chris Hansen still being willing to be compete and fight for the citizens of the region it is my sincerest hope that we as a basketball community channel this anger and hostility toward David Stern, and turn this into good by supporting Chris Hansen and imposing our competitive will as a fan base on the sports radio stations and the politicians and other important officials to continually show how strong of support that there is for basketball in this region.

This isn't about trusting the NBA anymore because you can't this is about to continuing to fight and compete following the example set by Pete Carroll and what he has done with the Seahawks and what the 12th Man has done to make Century Link Field the most feared place to play in sports. This is about doing this for us and the future generations of kids in this area. The chance for mothers, fathers, and grandparents to have the chance to pass down the experiences of going to professional basketball games and hopefully hockey. This isn't about fighting any other future cities and worrying about how they feel if it takes taking a team from another city if expansion doesn't happen. It is solely about this region somehow someway continiung to believe in Chris Hansen, Steve Ballmer, the Nordstroms, and in the folks on KJR like Mitch Levy, Elise, and Jerry, Furness and Puckett, Softy and Abker as they have continually believed in keeping the Sonics fight going.

In closing, the battle to bring the NBA was never going to be easy for Seattle its just not in the Seattle sports DNA to have things go easily on the first try. The worst thing that could happen is giving up now through continuing to compete and imposing the will of this fantastic region on the NBA and NHL this will get done I don't know when but it will get done and our kids and their kids will be blessed with the same opportunities to watch Sonics basketball and have new players to look up to and emulate.
