Celebrate New Turf at Stadium Event Wednesday

Ceremony switched from field house to stadium. It will be like a pep rally. Construction will start July 1 and end by the first home game Sept. 2.

Anyone who’s anybody will be celebrating at the ground-breaking of the new Enumclaw Sports Complex Wednesday night at 6 at the stadium.

It has been switched from the Enumclaw Expo Field House because of another event.

Official construction is set to begin July 1. The goal is to have the stadium ready to host the first game of the Enumclaw High School varsity football season Sept 2.

At the June 29 ceremony, representatives of the City of Enumclaw, Enumclaw School District and the community group that helped on the project, known as Y.E.A.S., will be there, along with Enumclaw High School football coach Don Bartel, the Hornet band and the cheerleaders. Mayor Liz Reynolds and schools Superintendent Mike Nelson are expected to speak, among others.

The three groups worked together on the multi-sport facility synthetic turf project, which also will include a scoreboard.

The low bid on the project was $445,000. Between a state Recreation and Conservation Office grant of $300,000, a King County grant of $75,000, $18,750 in matching funds and additional park impact fees, the city has $393,750 to spend on the project. The difference of about $51,000 would fall to YEAS as part of the funding agreement.

Carl Sanders Construction, Inc., is the general contractor. Sanders, a member of YEAS, volunteered his company to do much of the work. YEAS continues to raise funds for the project. For more information, contact Sanders at his office on 1327 Cole St. or  360-825-3800, or check the YEAS website.
