Crystal to Open with Limited Operations Wednesday

The ski area announced Monday morning that enough snow has fallen for some lifts to begin operating this week.

It's mighty drippy here in the lowlands but there's enough white and powdery stuff up on the mountains that Crystal Mountain has announced today it will open with limited operations Wednesday.

According to the resort's Facebook page, staff plan to open the Gondala, Green Valley and Rainier Express lifts. Earlier this morning, it reported that 30 inches had fallen in Green Valley over the weekend.

Crystal's website (www.skicrystal.com) is currently reporting a snow/rain mix at the base with heavy snow from mid-mountain up. Freezing levels are also expected to drop tomorrow into Wednesday, making for "excellent" opening day conditions.

The National Weather Service in a weather statement Monday morning said areas about 5,000 feet in elevation and to near 3,000 feet in the Cascades passes will see mostly snow today - anywhere from nine to 30 inches of snow possible on higher mountain roads.

The NWS's measuring station at the base of Crystal mountain is at 4,570 feet.
