EHS Alumni Make Impression in NWAACC Tournament

Denise Goodin reports to Patch about several former Hornets during this past weekend's Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges' baseball tournament in Longview in which Pierce Community College took the championship.

The names should sound familiar: Levi Goodin. Cody Hughes. Kyle Thompson.

They may no longer be wearing the maroon and gold of Enumclaw High School but these former Hornets were in fine form this past weekend during the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) baseball tournament in Longview, according to Denise Goodin who reported to Patch that Pierce Community College took the championship.

Goodin had reason to want to share the good news as son Levi is on that championshop team along with Hughes (both are pitchers); Thompson represented Yakima in the competition.

In quick review, Pierce beat Bellevue in game two of the tournament and then quashed Yakima in game seven. Levi helped secure the win against No. 1 ranked Bellevue College, said Goodin, and also against Lower Columbia in game 13. Teammate Hughes took the mound against Bellevue, Yakima and Mount Hood in game 11.

Levi was also named to the All-Tournament Team for relief pitcher, said proud mom Goodin.

The Longview Daily News has this report from the tournament with a complete recap (read the story).

According to Goodin, this is Pierce's second year as NWAACC West Division champions and its first ever championship win.

"These EHS boys helped make it possible!" said Goodin. "The games were exciting and hard fought. The Bellevue game was won in the 9th inning."
