Enumclaw Driver Hospitalized After Hydroplane Flips End for End

An Enumclaw hydroplane driver was taken Saturday to Detroit (MI) Receiving Hospital after the powerboat he was racing flipped end to end.

According to the Royal Oak, MI Daily Tribune, Enumclaw resident Ryan Mallow was taken to the hospital after the U-100 hydroplane named the Leland Unlimited flipped end for end during the second heat race of the day.

Mallow was racing in the American Power Boat Association (APBA) DYC Detroit APBA Gold Cup.

The race will conclude Sunday. According to the Tribune, Mallow was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital as a “precautionary measure.”

Gold Cup spokesman Bruce Madej said “He is conscious.”

Mallow was in second place at the time, trailing top qualifier Steve David.
