Enumclaw Girls Tennis: Day 1 in Class 3A Sub-District Tennis Tournament

The No. 1 doubles team of Gina Sanders and Bedda Johnson led the charge for the Enumclaw High School girl's tennis team on Saturday in day one of the Class 3A Sub-District Tennis Tournament which took place indoors at the University of Puget Sound Tennis Pavillion to avoid any conflicts with the intermittent rain that persisted throughout the day.

Sanders and Johnson had a first round bye and then won both of their matches on Saturday, losing just a total of three games combined.

Katie Holland/Hannah Smith over Hines/Jong (Lakes) 6-1, 6-1

Kayla Zillbauer/Rachel Norling over Dinh/Anderson (Highline) 6-4, 6-3

Cassens/Nowasad (Decatur) over Kayla Zillbauer/Rachel Norling 6-0, 6-1

Kayla Zillbauer/Rachel Norling over Ottinger/Deleon (Bonney Lake) 6-2, 6-4

On the singles side, Rachel Holley, Alex Putman, and Camille Clare worked for the Hornets and all three girls scored wins in the first matches of the day; Holley and Putman advanced through to Monday's consolation bracket.

The subdistrict tournament will conclude on Monday afternoon at Auburn Mountainview High School -- start time of about 2 p.m. The top five finishers in singles and doubles are guaranteed berths to the district tournament with the sixth place finishers qualifying as alternates.
