Four from Enumclaw Headed to Knights of Columbus State Free Throw Competition

George Rossman, representing the Sacred Heart Council of the local Knights of Columbus, reported that the two boys and two girls won their age group divisions at a regional competition in Burien Saturday.

Thanks to George Rossman of the local Knights of Columbus for passing along the news that four youngsters from Enumclaw have moved ahead to the state-level Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship on March 24 in Yakima.

The two boys and two girls from this area, ages 12 to 14, were named regional champions following Saturday's regional competition, he said. The Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Council 13364 in Enumclaw, together with other councils in Region 3, sponsored the event.

The winners were Jessica Cerne (12-year-old girls division), Sydney Andersen (13-year-old girls division), Drew Seabrands (13-year-old boys division) and Blake McBroom (14-year-old boys division).

Andersen, Seabrands and McBroom all scored 21 baskets out of 25 attempts in the competition, reported Rossman.

The four advanced to the state level after the first local competition held in Enumclaw on . They were presented with a certificate and trophy along with an invitation to compete in Yakima. State winners will be entered into judging where the international champion is selected, he said.

The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. International champions are announced by the Knights of Columbus International headquarters based on scores from the state-level competitions.
