Nine Hornets Advance to State Wrestling Tournament

Nine wrestlers from Enumclaw High School are headed to the Mat Classic at the Tacoma Dome on Feb. 18.

The Enumclaw wrestling team put up a strong showing at the 3A regional meet at Bonney Lake High School on Saturday and will send nine wrestlers to the Mat Classic state tournament (Feb. 18-19) at the Tacoma Dome.

The Hornets were top-heavy in weight class finishes, featuring four first place winners, four second-place and one fifth place.

State-title favorite Josh Musick led the way, finishing first in the 152-pound weight division. After advancing on points in his first match, Musick finished the meet with three straight pins to take the top spot.

Defending state champion Hunter File finished second in the 130-pound division, losing 4-2 in the finals to Marcus Crone of Yelm.

Sophomore Tyke Reid took second in the 112-pound weight division, dominating his first two matches before falling to Andrew Cunningham of Bonney Lake in the finals.

Marcus Nichols finished second in the 140-pound division, while Colton Malek took second in the 189-pound weight class.

Travis Reano finished fifth in the 125-pound division to round out the state qualifiers for the Hornets.

Enumclaw’s strong showing puts them in position to win the state title they narrowly missed out in 2010. The Hornets pursuit begins February 18 at the Tacoma Dome.
