Two EHS Hornets Named to All-America Water Polo Team

Coach Bob Averill reports twin sisters Allie and Katie Larrea have been named to the 2011-2012 NISCA/Speedo Girls All-America Water Polo Team.

Our thanks to Bob Averill for the following update:

Allie and Katie Larrea, both juniors on the Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team, were named to the 2011-2012 NISCA/Speedo Girls All-America Water Polo Team.  The twin sisters were both named to All-America Fourth Team.

Only two other Washington State players were named to All-America Teams - Julia Ponces, from Gig Harbor was named to Third Team, and Hannah Anderson, also from Gig Harbor, earned Honorable Mention.

In addition to their national honors, Allie and Katie earned statewide honors at the 2012 State Water Polo Tournament.  Katie Larrea was named to the All League and All State First Team, and Allie earned All League First Team and All State Defensive MVP honors.

The Enumclaw Hornets compiled a 24-2 record last season, and finished third at the State tournament, with their only loss in the semi-final game against Curtis High School.  The Hornets' success was remarkable, in part, because they did it with only nine players on their roster - seniors Annie Birklid and Hannah Kinniburgh, juniors Allie and Katie Larrea, and Bella Davenport, sophomore Megan Lesmeister, and freshmen Bailey Sexton, Haley Sonneson, and Madi Woodall.

Water polo has six field players and a goalkeeper playing, so the Hornet squad has only two subs on their best day.  Most high school teams have 12-15 players on their roster.
