Viewfinder: Black Diamond Triathlon/Duathlon at Nolte State Park

Athletes from as far as British Columbia, Utah and Michigan descend on Nolte State Park for the Eighth Annual Black Diamond Weekend of Sports & Fitness.

The Black Diamond Weekend of Sports & Fitness spans two days of various events at Nolte State Park, including a Long Course Triathlon and Endurance Duathlon on Saturday, and a Half Marathon, Olympic and Sprint Distance Triathlon on Sunday.

Patch hung out for most of the events Saturday. The triathletes navigated well through the pea-soup conditions in the morning during the swim event though by the time the footrace began, the sun had burned away much of the fog.

Jeff Smith, 30, from Portland, Ore., came in with the fastest overall time of 4:24:21 in the triathlon.
