Track & Field

The Enumclaw High School track and field squads opened their home meet schedule on Thursday afternoon against SPSL 3A league rival Peninsula High School. Peninsula pulled out both dual meet victories winning a razor close 74-73 decision Β in the girls meet. In the boys meet Peninsula was too much for Enumclaw winning by a score of 102-43.

In the girls meet, the Hornets dominated sprint events such as the 100-meter, where Enumclaw swept the top three spots paced by Olivia Bannerot's 13.80; Becca Cross came in just behind at 13.82, and Angela Lindsey took third with a time 14.07 seconds. In the 200-meter, there was a clean sweep by the Hornets as Diane Lindsey took first place with a time of 29.63 seconds, followed by Lucia Dead at 31.57, and Jaslyn Harder taking third place at 31.63 seconds.

Enumclaw was paced in event wins by Maria Blad; Β she took first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.42, and the long jump with a jump of 14 feet 9 inches.

In the field events, the Hornets' AnnaMarie Forza won the javelin event by almost 18 feet with a top throw of 115 feet.

The meet came down to the 1,600-meter relay where Peninsula's depth in their distance runners was too much for Enumclaw to overcome; Peninsula won by almost 14 seconds with a time of 4:28.36, giving the Seahawks a one point victory.

In the boys meet, in spite of the Peninsula depth winning 13 events, the Hornets did turn in some strong performances in several events starting with the pole vault.

Enumclaw swept the event led by David Brazier with a first-place pole vault of 13 feet; Logan Ross took second at 11 feet 2 inches, and Troy Lindsey took third at 10 feet 6 inches.

Editor's Note: David Brazier was incorrectly identified in an earlier version of this story.

The Hornets also secured victories in the 400-meter by Robby Johnson with a time of 54.68 seconds; Perry Rockwood took third at 56.41 seconds. Β In the 200-meter, Zack Mason and Robby Johnson put together the most exciting race of the day ending in a virtual dead heat for first place and posting a time of 24.25 seconds.

Next up for the Enumclaw track and field Β team is a trip to the Kent Meridian Invitational on Saturday, March 26. Start time is 10:30 a.m.
