Cedar River Academy's Summer Program Open to Enumclaw Students

Participants for the summer program will gain experience using tools like prototyping boards, soldering irons, drills, and be able to identify and understand the components of circuit boards.

The following information was provided by the Cedar River Academy.

Cedar River Academy is sponsoring a summer technology and science experience for Enumclaw area girls and boys.

These exploration programs will be held five days a week beginning July 15 and continue through July 26. The junior program for 7-9 year olds will be held Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The second program for 9-13 year olds will be held on these same days from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The younger group will focus on “Gross Science” projects such as growing bacteria, mold, slime, and chemical reactions.

The older group will focus on electronic circuit bending and sound generation projects. These students will learn to create and alter low voltage (dc) circuits in order create a “musical instrument” or “sound generator.”

The members will learn: how basic circuits work, Ohm’s laws of electricity, how sound waves travel and how frequency affects pitch and speed, they will design and package their devices, and learn to work safely.

The club will gain experience using tools like prototyping boards, soldering irons, drills, and be able to identify and understand the components of circuit boards (ic’s, resistors, capacitors, switches, transistors, and diodes/leds.)

Jared MacKenzie, CRA's middle school math and science teacher will lead these programs.  The fee for these two-week programs is $75 per student, including supplies and materials .

The CRA Technology Club will meet at the Cedar River Academy campus located at 3333 Griffin Avenue in Enumclaw.  As club sponsor, Cedar River Academy will provide facilities and project leadership.

The Technology Club membership is initially limited to 18 students per morning and afternoon session.

Interested young people from the Enumclaw area should apply early by calling the CRA office at 360-825-8080 between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
