Sunrise Road Closed Thursday for Recovery Efforts

The popular road in Mount Rainier National Park is closed Thursday, July 5 so that crews can conduct aviation/recovery operations.

Sunrise Road is closed Thursday, July 5 as personnel from Mount Rainier National Park resume their efforts to recover the body of climbing ranger Nick Hall, who .

The park's official Twitter page indicates the closure was to be for "aviation/recovery operations."

According to the Tacoma News Tribune, rangers indicate the forecasts for Thursday and Friday are finally favorable for recovery operations. Currently, climbing rangers from Denali, Rocky Mountains and various other national parks are at Rainier to assist.

A memorial service was held for Hall last weekend at Paradise and can be viewed online (click here to view).

It's not clear when the road will reopen though from a park statement to the TNT, "if feasible, it will reopen as soon as operations are complete."
