Reader Report: Mutual of Enumclaw Among Volunteers at 'Day of Caring' Event at Sammamish Nursing Home

The volunteer event occurred on Friday and the United Way of King County encouraged residents to help nonprofit and community groups.

Friday was United Way “Day of Caring” and Providence Marianwood was a big winner! Employees from PeaceHealth, Aerojet and Mutual of Enumclaw were set free by their employers from their regular duties to participate in the United Way Day of Caring. United Way of King County encouraged everyone to do more during an all-county call to bring caring people together to take action on behalf of nonprofits.

Marianwood had a huge gardening project and submitted the request for help to the United Way of as a Day of Caring Project. As part of their 25th anniversary celebration, Marianwood has been using volunteers and regular staff to rejuvenate their overgrown center court yard garden this summer. With the help of 10 employees from PeaceHealth and 14 employees from Aerojet, the project received a huge boost. Roots from an invasive ground cover were removed and the gardens were weeded, bushes and plants were pruned and cut back, weed cloth was laid and new plants were planted by the end of the day.

Mutual of Enumclaw took on the project of painting the alcoves of all the resident room in long term care.
